Many of you may be wondering: when do we get our next “Always Be My Baby” Mariah Carey fix from the lovely ladies of Treble in Paradise, Sarah Lawrence’s female a capella group? What have they been up to lately? Where can we catch them on the brink of a catchy new song?
According to Alissa Mandala, a senior member of the group, Treble has been working on new songs and brushing up on the old classics such as the Mariah hit previously mentioned, K.T. Tunstall’s “Suddenly I See”, and, of course, the ever popular Dusty Springfield hit, “Son of a Preacher Man”. They are also hoping to collaborate with Vocal Minority, the infamous all-male a capella group on campus, either in a joint concert or in the revival of a past duet: Kelly Clarkson’s “Since You’ve Been Gone”.
Treble in Paradise gave a stellar performance on November 2 at Cross Dress Cabaret and on Parents weekend. A number of gigs will be held in the Black Squirrel in the near future. Treble in Paradise is also considering performing at other nearby campuses, as well as recruiting a capella groups from other schools to serenade Sarah Lawrence students. The group held auditions and inducted four new members this year in addition to the re-induction of three previous members who have returned from abroad including Mandala, who was studying in Florence for the past year.

Although it’s pretty clear that these ladies have got it going on all by themselves, Mandala said that they can always use help from campus musicians. They are constantly on the prowl for new arrangements and ideas. Feel free to direct any thoughts or questions to: amandala@gm.slc.edu.
