Joe's List: Forget '4/20' here's some other things we shoudl ban

by Joe Lazauskas

Tuesday April 8, 2008

In light of the administration’s push for not allowing the PETA event on ‘4/20’ (see front page…no seriously, go do it now, you probably won’t really understand this column if you don’t, and it’s a pretty interesting story anyway), I thought it might be useful to suggest some other things to ban on campus instead, as a compromise.

SLC performers dance the night away

by Vivi Amranand '08

Tuesday April 8, 2008

In no more than six weeks, about twenty-five students created and rehearsed pieces that they performed on March 7th and 8th in the Spring Student Dance Concert. I remember walking from the show amazed and in a daze, trying to absorb images of controlled limbs within a sea of spoken words, black lace-chiffon, and plastic bananas.

SLC ‘Psychology and Art’ legend Arnheim remembered

by Frederic Richter '10

Tuesday April 8, 2008

Rudolf Arnheim, was a “legendary” faculty member of the Psychology department from 1943 to 1968. Truly a trailblazer in his field, he published nine highly acclaimed and original books many of which broke the previously constricting strictures of disciplinary segmentation. Arnheim, died at the age of 102, and on March 11th a symposium was held at the Donnelly Lecture Hall about the field that many would say he founded, Psychology and Art.

Despite shaky performance, College Boxes returns to SLC

by Joe Lazauskas '10

Monday March 24, 2008

“I called them at least five times, probably more,” Rivera, a junior, said of the customer service department at College Boxes, the summer storage company used by Sarah Lawrence College this past year. “I got different responses because I talked to different people. Some said to call back a certain day then I would and no one would pick up. Others said that they would call me, but no call. You can see the pattern here. They were supposed to deliver my boxes to my room before I got to a school, but that sure as hell did not happen.”

Joe's List: Six ways to spice up SLC Spring Break

by Joe Lazauskas

Monday March 24, 2008

SLC students are not the type to make an MTV Spring Break road trip down to Daytona Beach for beer pong, mud slides, tequila shots, whipped cream bikini contests and roofies. All in all, I think the country is getting tired of watching kids from Penn State and the University of Florida sexually assault each other. So, I thought I’d offer some TV solutions for SLC that will spice up spring break and inject some much needed TV revenue into our endowment:

Hill House's Double Identity

by Sarah Silbert '10

Monday March 24, 2008

The mixed tenant-student occupancy in Hill leads to tension: students expect a college dorm and late hours and loud music it entails, while older Yonkers tenants see the building simply as home.
